Rug Cleaning Techniques

If you have rugs whether they are cheap rugs or expensive rugs it’s important to make sure that you look after the way they look and spend time maintaining them. You will find that rugs of any nature over time start to deteriorate due to the amount of dirt and mess that we create over time, and also that they can become quite unhygienic as a result.

There is something you can do yourself – and that’s to use rug cleaning techniques such as vacuuming and such as washing the rugs in the washing machine. The former will be enough to remove the surface layers of dust, dirt and fluff and will make your rugs look much better. However it will not be sufficient to repair the rugs completely and they will still have dust and grime stuck right at the very bottom of the rug fibers. Further, vacuums won’t be sufficient to kill off bacteria.

To this end a washing machine can be useful, but only for cheap rugs. For cheap rugs this will clean the rugs thoroughly and all the way through with product, but for more expensive rugs it can cause them to become unwoven or to lose their color and dye.

Thus you should use professional rug cleaning techniques too. Normal rug cleaning is fine for cheap rugs and some nicer rugs and is a far more thorough clean that works in the same way as professional carpet cleaning. Here a rug cleaning device is used which is a more industrial sized vacuum that also has a reservoir for water and a trigger. The trigger squirts water which is mixed with a solution out of the reservoir and onto the rugs and this is allowed to soak through killing off bacteria and dislodging dust and dirt right at the bottom of the rug. From here the vacuum is used which is far more powerful than a regular vacuum and is able to suck the water all the way through the carpet again as droplets that will enter the vacuum cleaner. This far more thorough method is enough to clean every layer of the carpet and will help to make your room much brighter and cleaner looking and hygienic enough to eat off of.

For more delicate and fine rugs however even this form of rug cleaning might be a little too heavy duty. Instead then you want to use rug dry cleaning. Dry cleaning for rugs basically works without the water and instead uses a ‘dry’ foam or something else to clean it. This attracts dust and dirt and kills bacteria and it will be ‘scrubbed’ into the rugs with industrial brushes. After this the rugs will then be subjected to what will again be a very powerful vacuum. An additional bonus of rug dry cleaning is that it is dry much sooner after which makes it handy for commercial settings that want to resume business as quickly as possible and not worry about waiting for the floor to dry.

Protecting Your Carpet With Cheap Rugs

If you can find cheap rugs then this is a great way to add color and style to any room and to add something a little different. Even cheap rugs can look great and that means that you can inexpensively give your room a new feel to it.

However there is another benefit of cheap rugs, and that is that they allow you to do a lot more for your rooms too. Cheap rugs can be used not only to improve the look of a room, but also to help protect it and to help your carpet stand up to the rigors of having so many people walking across it and using it every day.

In short, you can use cheap rugs in order to protect your carpet and to add a protective layer, but there are ways and ways of going about this and not everyone realizes how best to use cheap rugs in this capacity.

Firstly you need to identify the areas that need protecting with your cheap rugs. One such area is anywhere that gets a lot of light on it from the window. If you have a big window in your room and the sun comes through it in the mornings then that will mean that the carpet is subjected to a lot of heat and light, and this can have the unwanted effect of actually bleaching your carpet and making it a lighter color. This will only be in one patch and it will thus make your carpet look blotchy and less appealing. However by putting rugs here you can prevent the sun from reaching the carpet and thus prevent that kind of color change keeping your carpet far more consistent.

Alternatively you might want to use cheap rugs in order to protect what are known as the traffic lanes in your room. These are the lanes that are most often frequented by people passing through the room – maybe the route from the door to the other door or from the door to the sofa. People often come this way and so it is walked on more often than other parts of the room and more likely to get flattened. Again a well placed rug can help avoid that fate.

Then there are the areas that are likely to get dirty and messy. For instance a room that leads to the garden and often has the doors open is likely to get a lot of dust and dirt blow in and people are often likely to trample through with their shoes on. Cheap rugs placed by the door here then can protect your flooring from that kind of abuse. Similarly the areas by and under your tables are likely to be the recipients of many small bits of food which can both smell and attract rodents. Because cheap rugs are so much easier to clean thoroughly, they are perfect for these locations.

And there’s another benefit of putting cheap rugs under the tables and chairs too – this also means that the rugs will absorb some of the pressure caused by the chairs and table legs.

How to clean pet stains from carpet

clean pet stains on the carpet
Anyone who owns or has owned a pet knows how unpleasant it can be to clean up after them. When a pet decides to relieve themselves on the carpet, don’t let it sit – you’re better off cleaning it up as soon as you see it to lessen the chances of permanent stains. The quicker you get the job done, the less amount of work you’ll have to put into cleaning pet stains from carpet.

For new pet stains on the carpet, make sure you remove as much of the liquid or solid as possible before treating the area itself. The more you can soak up before it dries, the easier it will be to get rid of the odor afterward. Press a thick layer of paper towel over the wet spot and cover that with some newspaper. If you can, slip some newspaper under the spot as well. Stand on it for a minute or two to soak up as much as you can. Keep doing this until the area is only a little damp.

It would be a good idea to place the urine-soaked towels in the place your pet is supposed to go to the bathroom, whether it be the litter box or outdoors. This will help encourage your pet to go where they’re supposed to and let them know what they did is not necessarily a bad behavior – as long as it’s done in the correct spot and not on the carpet. Next, you will want to rinse the area with cool water and sop it up. Or, if you have one, use a wet vac.

If the carpet pet stain has already had a chance to set, you might have to experiment a little to see what works. If the pet stain contains any solids, wipe up as much of it as you can with paper towels. You can use a pet odor neutralizer once the area is reasonably clean. Remember to follow the directions on the container, including testing it on a small area of the carpet first. If the area still looks stained, you can find a good carpet pet stain remover at the department store to get the rest of it up.

You don’t want to use any kind of cleaning chemical or steam cleaner when lifting a stain from the carpet. A lot of chemicals have ammonia. It carries the same scent as urine and doesn’t bother your pet. In fact, it may entice them to use that spot again. The heat from the cleaners will permanently set the stain – and the smell – by binding it directly to the fibers.

Make sure the area is completely free of any old cleaners you may have used there before, or neutralizing cleaners won’t work. Even if they weren’t used recently, any traces left behind will reduce the effectiveness of the new cleaner. And if the stain has been left alone long enough that it has had the chance to soak through to the padding underneath, chances are you will have to remove and replace that portion of the carpet.

Of course, if your carpet is of the expensive kind, you are probably better off hiring a professional to handle cleaning the pet stain from your carpet instead of doing it yourself.
